At Design Interviews

Interview with Attila Jónás : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Attila Jónás : About one year ago I wasn't here, where I'm now (at Moholy-Nagy University of Arts and Design). Back then I didn't know what the design is ( I don't say , that I know that now what it really means and how it works) and it was characteristic of me that I was thinking very complicated and my teacher, Szilárd Fecsó, always said that : Less is always more. I didn't understand what it really means, so when I was admitted to my university (MOME at Hungary) I started to build my design-philosophy and the first thought was that motto, what my teacher said. I started to philosophize about it and I formulated all my thoughts about this motto in this armchair. .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Attila Jónás : Do something very very simple what express my all thoughts. .Frank Scott: What are your future plans for this award winning design?. Attila Jónás : I want to find a company what likes this armchair and brings it to the real life. That would be fantastic... .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Attila Jónás : About one month. Doing its presentation, that was the most difficult. Doing the presentation was anther one month. So it was 2 months. It was difficult, because first I wanted to do a 3D model about it, but the renders wasn't realistic. So I did a 1:5 scale model about it. .Frank Scott: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?. Attila Jónás : I wanted to find my own way in design and build up my philosophy about design. .Frank Scott: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?. Attila Jónás : I want to sell this design to a company. .Frank Scott: What made you design this particular type of work?. Attila Jónás : Desire for creation. .Frank Scott: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?. Attila Jónás : Only design philosophies influenced me, other designs not. .Frank Scott: Who is the target customer for his design?. Attila Jónás : Everybody who likes simplicity, design and convenience. .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?. Attila Jónás : My design name is Less. It's from the motto : Less is more. With this armchair we can interpret this motto literally. .Frank Scott: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?. Attila Jónás : One of my teachers at my university, Cosovan Attila, helped me in this project with giving some advices. .Frank Scott: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?. Attila Jónás : I wanted to know that I'm on the right way to become a designer. This award gave me a confirmation that I'm on the right way. .Frank Scott: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?. Attila Jónás : Thanks for everybody who helped me to realize this project. .
